Research Interest

My research and teaching interests have been fostered by several years worth of undergraduate teaching and mentoring at Chittagong Govt. Veterinary College (CGVC), Bangladesh. Moreover during my PhD study at University of Liverpool and University of Glasgow, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as instructor for undergraduate biology students. In particular, I have taught discussion and laboratory sections for both introductory molecular and cellular biology and for introductory parasitology for three semesters each. In addition to the weekly laboratories incorporated into the molecular biology course, I taught a section of a summer school laboratory course on the principles and techniques of molecular biology.

Most of my research in the next few years will concentrate on furthering the development of molecular disease diagnostic tools. At Chittagong my Lab is also gradually developing expertise in DNA barcoding technique which has enormous potential in molecular taxonomy. Moreover, I also organize training sessions on bioinformatics and computational biology which is a neglected but promising research area in Bangladesh.

My most recent research areas include but not limited to medical biotechnology, bioinformatics and computational biology, systems biology etc. These include analyzing next generation metagenomics/ micrbiome dataset, whole genome sequencing strategies, RNASeq analyses, single cell genomics and other high throughput technologies where genomic, proteomics and metabolomics data analyses is frequently conducted. I believe there is a growing need for large scale data analyses in future research areas and I am keen to develop my expertise to extract maximum information from already available datasets in public databases.
