Department of Dairy & Poultry Science

The Department of Dairy and Poultry Science was established in 1996 with the objectives of teaching, research and extension activities under the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (formerly known as Chittagong Government Veterinary College (CGVC)).  Two major disciplines, Dairy Science and Poultry Science has been included in this department with specialized fields such as farm management and nutrition of livestock, pet animals and poultry as well as processing and marketing of milk and milk products together with poultry and poultry products for the undergraduate and postgraduate level. These courses are designed giving special focus on production and improvement of livestock in addition to quality assurance of dairy and poultry products in order to fulfill consumer demand. The diversified areas of different subjects offered from this department facilitate students to acquire practical knowledge and conduct need-based research for the improvement of dairy and poultry products. The department is also involved in need-based applied research education to improve the dairy and poultry production as well as ensuring safe products (dairy and poultry) for the consumers. The goal of this department is to fulfill the increasing demand of animal proteins (milk, meat and egg) among the consumers by developing modern techniques and improved technology in the field of dairy and poultry sciences. The department is also providing technical and consultancy services to different national and private organizations as well as farmers and stakeholders who are working in the relevant field of dairy and poultry production through training programs and direct consultancy.
