I am Nasima Akter. Working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Dairy and Poultry Science (DDPS) in Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), Chattogram, Bangadesh.

I did my Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine at the same institution and got the degree Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2014(12)

While doing my clinical report during final year of my graduation, I developed a strong interest on multidrug resistant zoonotic pathogens and I found this as an alarming issue that poses a significant risk in terms of mortality and economic burden worldwide. Due to my ongoing interest in Microbiology, I pursued my MSc in Microbiology at the same institution, which I completed in 2015. I have done my thesis on MRSA. During my thesis research, I have developed strong laboratory skills on isolation and identification of microbes (DNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, HA, HI), antibiotic susceptibility tests and other bacteriological tests. I was awarded with the prestigious ‘University Gold Medal Award’ for the excellent performance in this MSc program.

Thanks to my education and research, I started to work as a Lecturer in the DDPS, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, CVASU from August, 2016. Here my main job is to teach different courses of  dairy & poultry science and to supervise undergraduate and post graduate research students. During doing this job I have gained experiences on taking lectures, conducting different field and laboratory researches etc. As a faculty member, I was privileged to take part on different trainings and workshops organized by different national and international organization like RVC, OIE, icddr,b etc.

In 2018, I completed my second MSc degree in Poultry Science with the focus on Poultry Nutrition in my thesis and enriched my skills with  poultry rearing, handling, disease management, dissection, different qualitative and quantitative tests of poultry and poultry products. In the same year, I was promoted to Assistant professor without delay due to my admirable job in classroom as well as in lab. I have gained some research experiences done within the department and in collaboration with other departments of CVASU. As a result, I have published a few articles in some national and international peer-reviewed journals.

In addition to my academic achievements I have developed excellent leadership and communication expertise after appointing as an Assistant provost of female residential hall (Bangamata Fazilatunnessa Hall) of CVASU in 2018. In January 2020, I was then appointed as Provost of this hall.

As a course teacher of dairy and poultry science, my prime concern is maximizing the production by minimizing the cost. But in tropics it is very difficult due to different major factors that determine the production. Moreover, people’s attitude about the scientific management and rearing of animals is very poor due to the lack of knowledge and thorough research in this sector. So I need to work on this area in future.

I am interested to do my future researches in the following fields like: Poultry Nutrition, Avian Diseases, Food Microbiology, Antimicbial resistance and Farm Biosecurity.
