Department of Aquaculture is one of the five departments of the Faculty of Fisheries in Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The department is offering altogether eleven (11) courses including 28 credits at the undergraduate level and  MS in Aquaculture in the postgraduate program. The main aims of the department are to produce quality fisheries graduate, to provide support services to the farmer level, and to establish an institutional framework through appropriate and effective management of aquaculture practices. Both individual and collaborative research remains the focal point of this department regarding emerging issues and challenges of Aquaculture sectors.

The Department of Aquaculture facilities includes two well-equipped laboratories to facilitate teaching, research and innovation at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. All the academic staffs of this department are highly qualified and committed to producing competent graduates. The academic staffs of this Department are also actively involved with national and international collaborative research works. They are also contributing to provide extensive support for local fisheries entrepreneurs, involved with consultation services to the local farmers on commercial fish farming, disease prevention, and culture practices. With all the above strengths and experiences, our department is thriving for excellence towards achieving the mission of CVASU. Among the multidimensional research activities, the major ongoing research here includes, microalgae isolation, identification, and mass culture, development of microalgae gene bank of CVASU, feed formation for fish and crustaceans larvae with larval feeding trials, extraction of natural pigments of indigenous microalgae, antimicrobial activity of indigenous microalgae, hematological and immunity response of fish and crustaceans feed with experimental algal diet, development of soft-shell crab farming techniques, formulation of commercial diet for snakeheads and mud crab, Kaptai lake plankton diversity, seabass breeding, and larval rearing technique development, immunological studies on fish, development of drugs for fish, pet and poultry by microalgae, increase of larval survival of the halda river by microalgal diet, different types of disease of fish and crustaceans. Under this department, a number of freshwater and marine fish and prawn hatchery, live feed research corners, and other research facilities are being developed which will support future intensive aquaculture research.
