Department of Anatomy and Histology Faculty of Veterinary Medicine |
Dr. Md. Shahriar Hasan Sohel has joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) on February 9, 2026. He is a neuroanatomist whose academic work bridges classical neuroanatomy and histology with modern molecular and translational biomedical research, shaped by extensive national and international training across Bangladesh, Japan, and the USA.
He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from CVASU in 2016 with excellent academic standing. He subsequently completed an MS in Anatomy at the same institution in 2018 with highest distinction (CGPA 4.00/4.00).
Dr. Sohel earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neuroanatomy from Gifu University, Japan, as a recipient of the prestigious Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship. His doctoral research focused on the expression and functional significance of prosaposin and its receptors in brain and vestibuloauditory-related organs in chicken. His dissertation was recognized with the Gifu University President Award for Excellent Doctoral Dissertation (2024).
From April 2024 to January 2026, Dr. Sohel served as a highly prestigious NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), New York, USA. During his postdoctoral training, Dr. Sohel conducted research on cellular heme trafficking and heme homeostasis in acute hepatic porphyrias (a group of rare genetic disorders), using porphyria mouse models and advanced molecular and cellular techniques to elucidate disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets.
Dr. Sohel has published a good number of articles in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. His scholarly work spans comparative anatomy, molecular and systemic histology, sensory and immune-related organs, and translational biomedical research, with relevance to both veterinary and human health.
As a faculty member at CVASU, Dr. Sohel is committed to excellence in anatomy and histology education, emphasizing structure–function relationships, microscopic interpretation, and clinical relevance. His academic vision is grounded in a comparative and One Health framework, integrating veterinary and human biomedical sciences through teaching, research, and mentorship.
