Subrata received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Aquatic Bioscience from the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) with the prestigious Japanese Government Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship. He also completed his Master's degree from the same university. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Master of Science in Fisheries Technology from Bangladesh Agricultural University.

In his professional career, he joined as a lecturer at the Department of Fishing and Post-Harvest Technology at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in April 2015 and is currently working as an Associate Professor in the same department. His research focuses on the fish microbiome, particularly aiming to explore the microbial dynamics and uncover their functional potentials for the host.
